Meet Afonso Marques – Heber’s new Engineering Manager
It was all change for the New Year for Heber’s newest team member Afonso Marques who started his new post as Engineering Manager in early January.
With a background in electronics and software in the UK and in his native Portugal, Afonso has an enormous amount of experience from analogue to digital that he brings to the team. As Engineering Manager, he is responsible for the development of electronics, project management of programmes and of course, managing the engineering team. It’s a role he is relishing. “I am really enjoying the challenge here at Heber”, Afonso comments. “From an engineering perspective, it is like a playground! To be able to work on the development of electronics with a wide set of applications is fascinating and rewarding.”
Afonso is particularly enjoying the customer contact and working with customers from the beginning to the end of the design process. Afonso adds: “The mix is great here. It is really thrilling to be able to help sort out customer issues and identify solutions. At Heber, I am able to bring together different areas to create strong customer solutions – the customer requirements, the team and our expertise and commercial considerations.”
Afonso was able to see this in action when he supported the Heber stand at ICE and was able to meet a number of customers. “It was great to be able to get a feeling of what Heber’s customers are like and what is important to them. It gave me a great induction and provided lots of information which will enable me to make solutions more relevant.”
When not at Heber, Afonso has a very eclectic mix of hobbies from photography, playing the drums and fencing to salt water aquariums! He also keeps an electronics lab in his home in Portugal which he tries to get back to at weekends. And when in the UK, Afonso is a keen National Trust member and likes nothing more than spending his free time visiting their properties across the UK.
