Feasibility Studies Answering difficult question early in the project

When developing new electronic control systems, we follow a gated development model. For more complex projects our team may recommend that you undertake a feasibility study for the first stage.

Although the studies vary from project to project, they are generally used to answer difficult questions early in the project and eliminate risk. This prevents projects proceeding to prototype development based on misunderstandings and therefore prevents unnecessary spending.

For example; feasibility studies may be undertaken to answer questions like:

• Does this technology work in our application?
• Can we actually build this?
• Is this going to be a commercially viable idea?
• Are there competitors in the market place?

The outcome of a feasibility study will vary depending on the question that needs to be answered. An example outcome might be a bench top demonstration of a technology proving that it is viable in your application. All feasibility studies are documented and will make recommendations and propose the next step.
